Britain's economy experienced an unexpected surge in June, growing by 0.3% according to official data released on Thursday. This increase puts the country on track for the strongest growth among the G7 economies in the first half of 2026.

The economic boost is attributed to several factors, including the ceasefire in the Gulf region, which eased concerns over energy prices caused by the Iran war. Additionally, the start of the men's soccer World Cup and favorable weather conditions also contributed to the growth.

Thomas Pugh, chief economist at RSM UK, noted that the economy 'seems to have weathered the Iran war extremely well' with little impact on consumer or business activity.
