UK Food Price Inflation Set to Surge in 2027 Amid Global Disruptions
The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has revised its forecast for UK food price inflation, predicting that it will reach nearly 4% by the end of the year. This marks a significant decrease from their earlier estimate of over 10%.
The FDF attributes this expected increase to several factors, including the ongoing US-Iran conflict, European drought conditions, and the El Niño weather pattern. These circumstances have driven up costs for energy, logistics, and packaging, which in turn will drive food prices higher this year and into 2027.
FDF Chief Executive Karen Betts stated that food manufacturers have managed to keep prices low during the recent energy shock, but cannot sustain this approach indefinitely. As a result, food price inflation is expected to continue climbing after December, reaching a peak of 6.4% in July 2027.
