UK GDP Surprise Falls Flat on BoE Policy

The UK economy has experienced an unexpected boost in gross domestic product (GDP), exceeding market expectations. This development, however, is unlikely to significantly alter the Bank of England's policy trajectory.

According to TD Securities, the stronger-than-expected growth figure is largely attributed to a rebound in services and manufacturing output, but the underlying momentum remains modest. As such, the central bank is expected to maintain its cautious stance.

The BoE's primary concern remains inflation, which continues to be elevated. The GDP surprise does little to change this outlook, as it is seen as a temporary or one-off boost rather than a sustained trend.
