The UK housing market is facing another challenge as rising recession fears threaten to derail any recovery. According to accountancy firm EY, a prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route, could push the economy into contraction next year.

With oil prices soaring and inflation concerns on the rise, lenders have withdrawn mortgage products and hiked rates in recent months. The Bank of England's decision to hold interest rates steady last week has only added to the uncertainty.

Brokers remain cautious, predicting potential rate hikes due to inflation fears, which could further complicate affordability for homebuyers. EY forecasts no change to the key interest rate this year but predicts rate cuts next April and July.
