UK Inflation Expectations Surge on Rising Energy Prices

Public inflation expectations in Britain have risen in August, ending a recent downward trend. According to a Citi/YouGov survey, people expect inflation over the next 12 months to reach 3.9%, up from 3.4% in July.

The survey also found that long-term price growth expectations increased to 4.1%, their highest level since April, from 3.7%. This comes as energy prices have risen due to the Iran war.

Citi warns against over-interpreting this single report and notes that next month's release will provide a clearer picture of inflation pressures.

The Bank of England is closely monitoring these developments for signs of sustained inflationary pressures.
