UK Inflation Expected to Hit 3.5% This Year Despite Muted Recent Growth
Inflation has been rising due to several factors, including the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy prices. However, recent data suggests that inflation may not be as severe as initially feared.
According to economists, inflation has been more muted than expected since the start of the conflict in Iran, partly because energy prices have not increased as aggressively as anticipated.
While food prices have risen by a third over the past four years, due to the initial spike in inflation caused by the Ukraine war, they have remained relatively stable at 1.3%, which is its lowest level in nearly five years.
Wages and benefits have been outpacing inflation this year, easing the pressure on households. However, existing energy cost pressures may push up food and other prices in the coming months as these effects take time to pass through supply chains.
