UK Inflation Hits Four-Month High as Energy Bills Surge
UK inflation rose to a four-month high in July due to a surge in household energy bills, according to official data released on Wednesday. The annual consumer price inflation rate increased to 2.9% from 2.6% in June, matching forecast expectations.
The maximum tariff allowed by British regulators for energy firms to charge households jumped 13% last month, contributing to the higher inflation rate. This rise in energy costs is likely to have a lasting impact on household budgets.
Despite this increase, the Bank of England's forecasts suggest that inflation may peak at 3.2% later this year. The central bank was burned by high price rises in 2022 and is expected to monitor the situation closely.
