UK Inflation Surges on Soaring Household Energy Costs
UK inflation rebounded in July, rising to 2.9% year-on-year from June's 15-month low of 2.6%, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The main driver behind this increase was a significant surge in household energy bills, which rose by 13%. This growth in energy costs not only affected inflation but also added complications to potential interest rate cuts by the Bank of England.
The rise in services inflation slowed down from 3.6% to 3.4%, while core inflation remained steady at 2.6%. The British pound reacted positively to this data, edging up to $1.3541.
