UK Manufacturing PMI Slightly Below Expectations in August
The UK's S&P Global Manufacturing PMI final reading for August came in at 51.7, slightly below expectations of 51.5 and down from the previous month's reading of 51.9.
According to market analysts, final PMI prints rarely cause significant price movements on their own, as the market has already digested the information from the flash estimate earlier in the month.
The manufacturing survey remaining above the 50-line threshold is seen as a sign of slow expansion rather than a strong recovery. Historically, modest surprises like this have had a fleeting impact on sterling and front-end gilt prices.
The real market sensitivity lies in whether the sub-indices, particularly output prices and new orders, will feed into the near-term rate debate at the Bank of England. A renewed slide toward or through 50 could rekindle easing expectations at the short end.
