UK Must Return Venezuela's Stolen Gold Amid Devastating Earthquakes
Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodriguez has written to Britain asking for her country's gold, valued at £3.5 billion ($4.74 bn), held in the Bank of England to be returned.
The gold was seized by the UK government during a period of economic sanctions imposed on Venezuela, which has been ongoing for over a decade.
The recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, which have resulted in over 5,300 deaths and 16,500 injuries, have highlighted the urgent need for resources to aid relief efforts and rebuild the country.
Trade union leaders are now joining politicians in backing the campaign to return the gold to its rightful owners.
