UK Retail Sales Surpass Expectations with 1.0% MoM Rise
Retail sales in the United Kingdom (UK) rose by 1.0% month-over-month (MoM) in June, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This is a significant increase from the previous month's growth of 1.2%. The market forecast had predicted a decline of 0.3%.
The core retail sales, which exclude auto and motor fuel sales, also saw a rise of 1.1% MoM in June, compared to a previous increase of 1.2%. The annual retail sales came in at 4.2%, up from the previous year's growth of 3.5% (revised from 3.2%).
The Pound Sterling may see some impact from these numbers, as strong economic data can strengthen the currency.
