UK Shares Plummet as Miners Retreat Amid Cooling Labour Market
UK shares experienced a decline on Tuesday as metal miners retreated and data indicated a further cooling in Britain's labour market. The blue-chip FTSE 100 index fell by 0.1% to 10,711.29 points, marking its seventh consecutive session in the red.
The midcap FTSE 250 also dropped 0.4% to 24,612.95 points amid declines in mining stocks such as Endeavour Mining, Fresnillo, and Antofagasta, which fell around 2% each.
Data showed that Britain's labour market cooled further in the second quarter, with slowing earnings growth in the private sector and the smallest number of vacancies in more than five years. The Bank of England is likely to remain on hold for now, monitoring the impact of higher energy prices on wage settlements.
