Ukraine's Hryvnia Continues Downward Trend Amid Military Tensions
The Ukrainian hryvnia has been facing a challenging situation in July, with its value fluctuating amidst rising demand for foreign currency and ongoing military conflicts. As of July 31, the official exchange rate stood at 44.69 UAH/USD, down from 44.79 UAH/USD at the beginning of the month.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) intervened in the market to stem the downward trend, selling $871.2 million to importers during the first week and $2.088 billion over the following two weeks.
However, despite these efforts, the hryvnia continued to devalue, with trading taking place at 44.74-44.89 UAH/USD on the interbank market in the final days of July.
The situation is further complicated by Russia's frequent attacks on Ukrainian seaports and port infrastructure, which have constrained maritime shipments of agricultural products and affected revenue for metallurgical enterprises.
