UniCredit's Commerzbank Bid Nears Crucial ECB Verdict
UniCredit's ambitious bid to acquire Commerzbank is nearing its decisive moment as the European Central Bank (ECB) prepares to deliver a verdict. According to an internal document, the ECB is inclined to approve UniCredit's plan to raise its stake in Commerzbank to nearly 50 percent.
The Italian lender's shares are trading at an all-time high of €85.34, just 0.7% below their 52-week peak of €85.96. The market's optimism is reflected in the stock's elevated volatility, with a 30-day annualized volatility of 27 percent.
However, the ECB's assessment flags 'significant integration risks' and calls for UniCredit to submit more robust governance and confidence-building measures. This could potentially delay or alter the outcome of the takeover bid.
