US and UK Join Forces to Tackle Global Crypto Scam Centers
The United States and the United Kingdom have formed an unprecedented alliance aimed at dismantling global scam centers tied to crypto fraud. The Department of Justice says US and UK authorities are joining forces to crack down on international scam centers accused of defrauding Americans through cryptocurrency and cyber-enabled investment schemes.
Under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Scam Center Strike Force, launched by US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro in November 2025, will work with its British counterparts to conduct parallel investigations into shared targets. They will exchange intelligence on organized crime groups and coordinate on where individual cases should be prosecuted.
US and UK authorities estimate that these scam centers collectively cost Americans an estimated $10 billion each year. The agreement is the first international cooperation framework specifically focused on disrupting scam centers involved in cryptocurrency fraud, cyber-enabled investment fraud and other schemes.
The Scam Center Strike Force focuses on cryptocurrency investment scams, cyber-enabled fraud, human trafficking and money laundering operations that have caused billions of dollars in losses to American victims. US Attorney Pirro described the agreement as the first international cooperation framework specifically focused on disrupting scam centers involved in cryptocurrency fraud, cyber-enabled investment fraud and other schemes.
