US Bond Yields Surge, Testing Fed Chair Warsh's Leadership

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is facing intense scrutiny as US government bond yields surge to new heights, causing turbulence across financial markets.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury briefly climbed to around 4.71%, while the real yield on the 30-year Treasury rose to its highest level since the global financial crisis.

This increase in yields has led to higher borrowing costs for households and businesses, tightening financial conditions across the market.

Market participants are now increasing their bets that the Fed could raise interest rates again in the near term after economic data remained resilient and inflationary pressures showed little sign of easing.
