US-Canada Trade Tensions Escalate Amid New Tariffs
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley expressed concerns that new tariffs on goods from Canada could harm the US economy and national security.
The senator stated that Iowans already pay high prices for gasoline and groceries, and these new tariffs will further increase costs for various products, including alcohol, auto parts, and lumber.
Grassley pointed out that the 2020 free trade deal, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, is being left behind as a result of the collapsed trade talks between the US and Canada.
The senator also warned that President Trump's harsh language towards Canada could have negative consequences, such as pushing their allies into the arms of countries like China, which would expose the nation to economic and national security vulnerabilities.
