US-Canada Trade War Escalates as Tariffs Bite Hard on Businesses
Canada's business sectors are facing a double whammy from tariffs on both sides of the border as the trade war between Canada and the US intensifies. The federal government is being urged to take swift action to provide relief to affected businesses.
The trade war escalated with a total import ban by the U.S. on specific Canadian products taking effect on Sept. 29 in response to Canadian dollar-for-dollar counter tariffs.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said, 'our future won't be decided in Washington, but right across Canada,' in a video released on Sept. 8 in response to the escalating trade war.
