US Closes Down Chinese State-Sponsored Hacking Platforms
The US Justice Department and FBI have taken down two Chinese state-sponsored hacking platforms that allegedly targeted critical infrastructure and sensitive networks across the country.
The domains connected to QScan and QTRouter were seized, rendering both systems inoperable. The alleged targets included NASA, the Federal Reserve, several government departments, and the US Senate.
According to court documents, the group behind these platforms, identified as QTFY, sold hacking services to paying customers, including China's Ministry of State Security and the People's Liberation Army.
The malware used by QScan searched for and infected thousands of internet-connected devices worldwide, which were then added to the QTRouter network. This system was designed to hide the source of malicious activity, making it appear to come from outside China.
