US Disables Eight-Year Espionage Operation with Seizure of Chinese Hacking Domains
The Department of Justice and FBI seized three internet domains used by Chinese state-sponsored hacking platforms QTFY, instantly disabling an eight-year espionage operation.
The operation, which spanned from May 2018 to June 2026, targeted federal agencies including NASA, the Federal Reserve, the Department of Energy, and others.
QTFY was a commercial contractor that sold its hacking services to China's Ministry of State Security (MSS) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
The platforms used compromised home routers as relay points to mask their Chinese origins, making it difficult for defenders to track the attacks.
