US Disrupts Chinese Hacking Operation Targeting Government Agencies

US officials have disrupted a Chinese hacking operation that targeted several sensitive US government agencies. The Justice Department announced that it has seized internet domains used by two hacking platforms, QScan and QTRouter, which were allegedly employed by China-based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company.

The hacking platforms were used to burrow into US target networks, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Federal Reserve, Department of Energy, Department of Justice, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Senate. The court documents alleged that QTFY's computer hacking services created and operated the two hacking platforms to scan and automatically infect thousands of IoT devices worldwide.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau played a key role in disrupting 'a global botnet and hacking platform used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to target U.S. critical infrastructure.' Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that federal law enforcement investigated and disabled the PRC's malicious software.
