A US investigation has disrupted a Chinese hacking operation that compromised sensitive government agencies. The operation, known as 'QTFY,' used two hacking platforms called QScan and QTRouter to breach systems at the Department of Justice (DOJ), NASA, Federal Reserve, Senate, and other critical infrastructure.

Court documents unsealed in the Southern District of California alleged that QTFY, employed by China-based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company, created and operated these platforms. The hacking group allegedly used QScan to scan and infect thousands of 'internet-of-things' (IoT) devices worldwide.

The DOJ seized internet domains used by the two hacking platforms, making them inoperable according to court documents. The disruption is part of a larger effort to dismantle 'indiscriminate hacking activities sponsored by the People's Republic of China.'
