US Dollar Rebound Weighs on Gold Prices Amid Inflation Concerns
Gold prices dropped on Friday as the US Dollar rebounded from its previous day's sharp decline. The DXY index, which tracks the value of the Greenback against a basket of six major currencies, rose to 100.20 after hitting a six-week low on Thursday amid suspected foreign exchange intervention by Tokyo to support the Japanese Yen.
The war in the Middle East and rising energy prices have kept inflation concerns high, fueling expectations that the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates. While gold has managed to hold above $4,000, technical indicators suggest stabilization rather than strong selling pressure.
On Friday, gold (XAU/USD) traded at around $4,055.3, down 1.22% on the day. The prospect of higher US interest rates is limiting the metal's upside, while traders await the final University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment and Consumer Expectations data, alongside one-year and five-year Consumer Inflation Expectations.
