US Dollar Regains Ground Amid Iran Tensions, USD/JPY Pair Hits 163.60

The US Dollar (USD) has regained ground against several major currencies following increased military tensions between the United States and Iran. The USD/JPY pair rose 0.1% to around 163.60 in the European trading session on Thursday, with the US Dollar Index (DXY) also increasing by 0.2% to near 101.00.

The Federal Reserve's (Fed) recent monetary policy announcement, which left interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%, had a negative impact on the US Dollar earlier this week. However, Commerzbank's Michael Pfister notes that Fed Chair Kevin Warsh stated policymakers are committed to bringing down inflation and will act if necessary.

Despite this commitment, market experts remain skeptical about the Fed's resolve. Commerzbank argues that the lack of guidance on policy direction contributed to the US Dollar's decline following the announcement.

The Japanese Yen (JPY) is expected to be a key focus point in the coming days, with investors awaiting the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) monetary policy meeting scheduled for Friday. Analysts at Commerzbank expect the BoJ to leave its overnight call rate unchanged and are looking for any indication of a hawkish tone that could support the JPY.
