US Dollar Rises Against Yen on Iran Sanctions Escalation
The US dollar (USD) has strengthened against the Japanese yen (JPY) as investors flock to safe-haven assets following an escalation of Iran sanctions. The USD/JPY pair is currently trading above the 159.00 mark, with the 4-hour chart showing a mildly bullish bias.
This move comes despite the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) hawkish stance and warnings about inflation risks from the Middle East. Kazuo Ueda, Governor of the BoJ, has flagged the situation as a risk to watch for prices and the currency.
The Iran sanctions escalation is driving flows into safe-haven assets, including the USD. The Greenback's advance carries it back above the 159.00 threshold, still below where the BoJ stepped in at the end of July to knock the pair down from four-decade highs just under 164.00.
