US Dollar Seeks Direction Ahead of Jackson Hole Symposium
The Japanese Yen has maintained a relatively stable value against the US Dollar ahead of this week's highly anticipated Jackson Hole Symposium, where Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is set to deliver a keynote speech.
As investors await Warsh's remarks, which are expected to significantly influence central banks' interest rate expectations, the USD/JPY pair has been trading in a limited range at around 159.30.
According to strategists at OCBC, the comments from Fed Chair Warsh will be crucial in determining the direction of the US Dollar, with the possibility of finding support if he and other officials push back against debasement concerns and reaffirm their commitment to returning inflation to the 2% target.
In related news, the US Treasury yields have firmed up after the release of the Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) Price Index report for July, which showed that price pressures remained sticky. The inflation print helped the US Dollar, keeping alive expectations that the Federal Reserve may still resume rate hikes.
