US Dollar Surges as Inflation Pressures and Oil Prices Soar
The US dollar strengthened on Thursday due to increased inflationary pressures and rising oil prices. The latest Producer Price Index (PPI) data showed that core PPI rose 0.2% month-on-month, while headline PPI increased 5.4% year-on-year, the largest gain in three months.
Rising energy prices were a significant factor driving producer prices higher, and escalating tensions between the US and Iran have further pushed up energy prices, with Brent crude oil prices briefly climbing to $105 per barrel on Thursday.
The sustained rise in oil prices has heightened concerns about inflationary pressures in the coming months and driven up yields on sovereign bonds in the US and other major global economies.
The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index rose as much as 0.4%, its largest intraday increase since August 28, while all G10 currencies fell against the dollar during the session.
