The US dollar is experiencing its largest weekly rally since mid-June due to rising oil prices. This surge has left the Japanese yen at historic lows, with Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama expressing readiness for intervention in the foreign exchange market.

However, analysts suggest that such measures may only provide short-term relief without coordinated action like rate hikes by the Bank of Japan (BOJ). The U.S. Treasury Department has echoed calls for BOJ rate hikes, stating that extreme currency volatility is undesirable.

Despite these warnings, traders have dismissed the possibility of a rate change at the upcoming BOJ policy meeting. Macquarie Group's Thierry Wizman notes that due to current conditions like rising oil prices, the yen remains a target for currency speculators.
