US Economy Sees Decline in Nonfarm Payroll Employment

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics released its latest figures on August 7, indicating that total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States declined by 23,000 in July. This marks a shift from the modest growth experienced in previous months.

The overall unemployment rate remained at 4.1 per cent, showing little change from the previous month and year.

The decline in employment was concentrated in specific sectors, including local government education, which lost 50,000 jobs, and retail trade, which shed 19,000 positions. Financial activities also saw a downward trend, shedding 14,000 jobs.

In contrast, health care continued to add jobs, with an increase of 22,000 positions in July.
