US Employment Surges, Sparking Rate Hike Expectations

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported a significant increase in non-farm payrolls (NFP), exceeding market expectations. In August, NFP jumped by 162,000, surpassing the previous reading of 21,000 and beating analysts' forecasts of 56,000.

This strong employment report indicates underlying strength in the labor sector, despite ongoing tensions between the US and Iran weighing on business confidence.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, aligning with analysts' expectations. This figure suggests stability in the labor market, as current levels are the lowest recorded since June 2025.

Market participants are anticipating a potential interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, with the CME FedWatch Tool showing an increased probability of a rate increase at the September meeting.
