US Exposes Widespread Chinese Cyber-Espionage Campaign
US officials have exposed a major alleged Chinese cyber-espionage campaign that compromised or attacked numerous federal agencies, including NASA, the Federal Reserve, and the US Senate. The hackers affiliated with China's military and intelligence services used a Chinese tech company to cover their tracks and make attacks more efficient.
The targets included not only government agencies but also US military networks, hospitals, power companies, and defense contractors. The Justice Department seized three internet domains affiliated with the Chinese company to stop further damage.
According to an affidavit written by an FBI agent, the hacking began in 2018 and continued through 2026. The victims included three unnamed Department of Energy National Laboratories, the National Institutes of Health, and a Department of Health and Human Services agency.
