The U.S. farm sector is facing challenges in the form of weaker commodity prices, elevated production costs, and downward pressure on working capital.

However, despite these difficulties, the value of American farm real estate continues to rise.

According to the USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), farm real estate was valued at $3.77 trillion in 2026, up nearly 4% from 2025.

The Federal Reserve estimates that farm real estate is worth around $3.99 trillion in 2026, accounting for about 83% of the nation's farm-sector asset base.

Average U.S. farmland values have been on an upward trajectory since 2006, with prices rising from approximately $1,830 per acre to over $4,500 per acre in 2026.
