US Fed Rate Hike Warning: Indian Markets on Edge Ahead of September Meet
US Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh indicated in his recent Jackson Hole speech that key policy rates could rise by 25 basis points in September. This development has sparked concern among Indian investors, as a rate hike would likely impact the country's stock market.
The US Fed rate is considered crucial globally, with its decisions influencing massive funds flows towards or away from riskier assets. Analysts predict that the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will meet on September 15-16 to decide on a possible rate hike.
According to Reuters, the probability of policy rates rising in September has jumped to 55.7%, up from 35.4% on Thursday. This increase in probabilities suggests that investors should be cautious and refrain from taking aggressive bets.
Nilanjan De, director at Wishlist Capital Services, believes that the US Fed chairman's speech could impact equity market investors and channel funds towards fixed-income assets in the US. This, in turn, may result in a negative impact on Indian benchmark indices.
