US Housing Market Sees Sharp Decline in Foreign Buyers
Foreign buyers have sharply pulled back from the US residential real estate market. According to data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), sales of existing homes to foreign buyers between April 2025 and March 2026 fell 14% in unit volume and 19% in dollar volume compared with the preceding 12-month period.
The median price of homes purchased by foreign buyers stood at $465,000. International buyers purchased around 67,100 properties during this period, which is the second-lowest level since NAR began tracking the data in 2009.
NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said that even a slightly weaker US dollar over the past year did not induce more foreign activity. He added that the decline in foreign home buyer activity mirrors the decline in international visitors and tourists to the United States.
