US Imposes 50% Tariffs on Canadian Goods Amid Escalating Trade War

The United States has escalated its trade war with Canada by imposing a 50% surcharge on certain Canadian products. The tariffs, which were announced last week, target goods such as cheese, animal furs, motorized vessels, paper-based products, and steel.

However, some Canadian goods that had been subject to the tariff are now exempted, including toilet paper, cement, and whisky bottled in containers larger than four liters. This move was made in response to Canada's imposition of tariffs on several US products earlier this month.

The trade conflict is putting pressure on Canada's economy, which relies heavily on exports to the US market. Nearly three-quarters of Canadian exports are destined for the United States, making it the world's largest market for Canadian goods.
