US Imposes Unprecedented Tariffs on Canada Amid Trade Spat

The US and Canada's trade talks have collapsed, leading to a new development in their ongoing spat.

A 50% tariff has been imposed on various Canadian goods using Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, which was previously unused. The move aims to calm financial markets, but according to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, it affects only a small percentage of Canadian imports into the US and even less of consumption.

Greer stated that there's 'no possible way' the tariffs can really affect US well-being, as they have a minimal direct impact. However, the new levies raise other issues that are more important and troubling for both America's chief trade negotiator and the US economy.
