US Inflation Data Set to Influence Rate Hike Expectations
The US equities market closed the week mixed, with the Dow Jones down 0.3%, the Nasdaq up 0.4%, and the S&P 500 gaining 0.1%. The dollar also finished lower.
August nonfarm payrolls smashed expectations by surging 162,000 versus forecasts of 56,000, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1% and wage growth slowed to 3.1%.
Heading into the new week, Fed funds point to a 57% chance of a September rate hike, with US inflation data set to provide further clues over the Fed's next move.
