US Inflation Holds Steady at 3.4% Amid Ongoing Fuel Price Increases
The US inflation rate held steady at 3.4% in August as high fuel prices persisted, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The August reading is unchanged from July's figure, which was also 3.4%. Fuel prices remained a major driver of inflation, with energy costs increasing 32.9% over the past year.
Economists had expected an increase in the August inflation rate due to rising fuel costs and higher prices for other goods. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that core inflation, which excludes food and energy costs, also held steady at 4.3%.
