US Inflation Rate Remains Unchanged Amid Global Energy Price Pressures
The US annual inflation rate remained unchanged at 3.4 percent in August, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released on September 11.
This stability in consumer prices comes despite global energy markets being upended by the war between Washington and Tehran, which has revived price pressures across the economy.
The core inflation rate, excluding volatile food and energy prices, slowed to 2.4 percent, its lowest level since March 2021. However, this slowing was largely due to a decline in energy costs, not a decrease in underlying inflationary pressures.
Shelter inflation remained stubbornly high, rising 0.3 percent from July's 0.1 percent gain and contributing significantly to the core inflation rate.
