US Inflation Rate Shows Signs of Cooling Down
The US inflation rate has been a topic of concern for years, and the latest report on consumer prices is expected to provide some clarity. The government's inflation report, set to be released on Wednesday, will show whether prices have continued to rise or are finally cooling down.
A survey by data provider FactSet predicts that consumer prices rose 3.4% in July from a year earlier, down from 3.5% in June and lower than the recent peak of 4.2% in May. On a monthly basis, prices are expected to have risen just 0.1% from June to July.
The cooling trend is partly due to falling gas prices after a ceasefire was reached in the US-Iran war. However, gas prices rose again in late July and earlier this month, which could lead to higher inflation when August's figures are released next month.
Rising costs for services such as healthcare, restaurant meals, and car maintenance are also contributing to high inflation. These costs often reflect higher wages, but incomes aren't growing fast enough to sustain inflation.
