US Inflation Rises to 3.4% in July Amid Energy Price Increases
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that consumer prices rose by 3.4% in July, reversing the decline seen in June. This marks the first increase since January, when the inflation rate began to rise due to the war between the US and Iran.
Energy prices remained high, increasing by 14.7% over the past year, with gasoline prices rising 24.6%. The national average price of gas stood at $4.04 per gallon as of Wednesday.
Despite energy costs, grocery prices were relatively stable, climbing only 3% over the last year. Food prices at home increased by 2.7%, but meat prices rose significantly.
Economists are cautiously optimistic about the inflation trend, noting that it is still above the Federal Reserve's 2% target. The Fed is in a 'wait-and-see mode,' considering interest rate decisions based on future developments.
