US Inflation Surpasses Fed Target at 2.1%

Inflation in the United States continues to rise above the target set by the Federal Reserve. According to data from August 30, 2026, inflation is now at a level of 2.1%, exceeding the Fed's goal of keeping prices stable within a 2% range.

NPR's Ayesha Rascoe spoke with Mary Lovely of the Peterson Institute for International Economics about the current state of inflation and its impact on the economy.

Mary Lovely noted that inflation has been increasing steadily over the past few months, with prices rising across various sectors. 'We've seen a significant increase in consumer spending, which is driving up demand and contributing to higher prices,' Lovely said.
