US-Iran Tensions Weaken Japanese Yen Amid Rising Economic Pressures
The Japanese Yen has been under pressure as tensions between the US and Iran have lifted the value of the US Dollar. As of Tuesday, USD/JPY is trading at around 159.30, up 0.15% on the day.
However, the pair's direction remains uncertain due to concerns over Japan's public finances and interest-rate differentials with the US. Investors are worried about Japan's deteriorating fiscal position, which has been exacerbated by rising long-term bond yields and a substantial public debt burden.
Rising import costs also pose a risk to the Japanese economy, particularly amid supply-chain disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict. With Japan heavily dependent on energy imports, elevated energy prices could increase pressure on the economy and its trade balance.
