US Jobs Surge in August: 162,000 New Positions Added

The US added 162,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in August, well above the forecasted 53,000 jobs. This marks a significant increase from the average monthly growth of 31,000 jobs over the past year.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1% in August, while the labor force participation rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 61.6%. The broader U-6 unemployment rate also declined by 0.2 percentage points to 7.7%.

Nationally, leisure and hospitality led sector growth with a gain of 62,000 jobs in August, followed by state and local government with an increase of 40,000 jobs. In contrast, information employment declined by 23,000 jobs, and financial activities decreased by 11,000.
