US Labor Market Disappoints with Surprise Job Loss in July
The latest employment report revealed a disappointing July for the US labor market. According to the data, nonfarm payroll employment shed 23,000 jobs in July, falling short of the projected addition of 85,000 jobs.
This represents a decline from June's 20,000 gain and marks a slower pace than expected. The unemployment rate, however, ticked down to 4.1% in July, with the U6 unemployment rate also dropping to 7.9%.
The labor force participation rate has been steadily declining and now stands at 61.4%, reaching its lowest level since early 2021.
