US Nonfarm Payroll Employment Sees 23,000 Decline in July

The US nonfarm payroll employment declined by 23,000 in July, while the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%. The Bureau of Labour Statistics reported that this decline follows a period of modest growth in the national job market.

The employment losses were concentrated in specific sectors, including local government education, which dropped 50,000 jobs, and retail trade, which shed 19,000 positions. Financial activities also declined, with a loss of 14,000 jobs due to reductions in credit intermediation and insurance carriers.

Conversely, the healthcare sector maintained job creation, adding 22,000 positions at a slower rate than its 12-month average gain. The total number of unemployed individuals stood at 6.9 million, with the labour force participation rate remaining stable at 61.4%.
