US Oil Prices Fall Back from Record Highs Amid Ongoing Tensions
Oil prices have opened lower this week following last Friday's sharp rally. Brent crude futures have fallen below $92, while US WTI has slipped toward $86. Despite escalating tensions between the US and Iran, traders are taking profits after the recent surge.
The rally was driven by US sanctions pressure on Iran, accelerating global inventory drawdowns, and concerns about refined product supplies. However, the momentum has weakened at the start of the new week.
Iranian officials have warned of further escalation and threatened broader disruption to Gulf oil exports. If the current selling pressure continues, Brent could face a deeper correction toward $80, while WTI could target the $75 area.
The Federal Reserve's upcoming economic events, including July PCE inflation data and Chairman Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech, may add to volatility in the oil market.
