US Pork Exports to Japan Surge 20% Despite Economic Hurdles
U.S. pork exports to Japan have surged nearly 20% through May 2026, despite economic challenges such as a historically weak yen and persistent energy inflation.
The growth is attributed to rising demand in convenience stores, bento boxes, and ramen chains, coupled with import restrictions on Spanish pork due to African Swine Fever (ASF).
'U.S. pork exports are really performing well into Japan year-to-date through May,' said USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom.
Japanese consumers understand the value of U.S. pork, despite the weak yen making products more expensive in yen terms.
