The US interest rate path remains uncertain due to persistent inflation and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The Ministry of Finance said that key interest rates in the United States are unpredictable, with high inflation in both the US and Europe contributing to the uncertainty.

First Vice Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il led a meeting with officials from financial authorities, including the Bank of Korea. They discussed the recent decision by the US central bank to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.5-3.75 percent overnight. This marked the fifth consecutive pause in rate hikes.

The finance ministry stated that despite solid economic momentum in the US, with business facility investment remaining robust due to AI-related investments, the rate path may remain uncertain. The officials also vowed to continue monitoring global oil prices and monetary policies of major countries.
