US Stock Market Stable After Weak Retail Sales Data
The US stock market was relatively stable on Friday after the release of weak retail sales data, which has raised concerns about economic growth but could keep interest rates low.
The S&P 500 index was virtually unchanged, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by less than 0.1%. The Nasdaq composite fell 0.2%.
Treasury yields were mixed in the bond market after the retail sales report. Shorter-term yields eased, suggesting traders see the Federal Reserve as less likely to hike interest rates at its next meeting in September.
However, the yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.66% from 4.63% late Thursday.
